2018 Reception for Grand Ruth

Our most recent event was a district-wide event, honoring Sister Marsha Price, PM, who is the Grand Ruth of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in the state of California and an esteemed member of our Chapter. It took place on August 18th, 2018 at the Mill Valley Community Center. Our members did a great job putting on and hosting the event.

Annual Potluck and Penny Rolling Dinner

We held our Annual Potluck and Penny Rolling Dinner on August 1st. Each August, we have a potluck dinner at the Mill Valley Masonic Center without a meeting. This was our first event for the second half of the year. We enjoyed our dinner as well as the rolling of countless pennies which are then used as part of a fundraiser for the expenses of the Chapter.

Recent Fundraiser

This year, we were invited to help with the serving of the meal for one of the brethren of Fairfax Lodge. Worshipful Brother David Von Bima PM. He is also an esteemed Eastern Star brother. He having served as one of the Past Grand Worthy Patrons of Eastern Star in California. Here pictured are the Sister who helped serve that night and cleaned up after the event. We wish to thank them for their service that evening.

Official Visit of the Worthy Grand Matron & Worthy Grand Patron

On June 30th, 2018, the Official Visit of the Worthy Grand Matron and Worthy Grand Patron was held at Rose Valley Chapter in Santa Rosa. The leadership of the Grand Chapter visits each district each year. This years visit was a success. We wish to thank Rose Valley for their efforts on behalf of the district.

On Memorial Day each year, we hold our annual Balloons and Bake Sale. It is held annually in front of the Masonic Building just down the street from Mill Valley Fire Departments "All You Can Eat" Breakfast. We sold cupcakes, balloons, flags, buttons and gliders as a fundraiser for our organization
(and it is a lot of fun!).

2018 Relay for Life

On the weekend of May 19th and 20th, we participated in Cancer Societys Relay for Life, a fund raising event to help fight cancer. Our members walked laps to which donors provided funds for each lap walked. It took place on the grounds of San Jose Middle School in Novato. The funds raised will go to the American Cancer Societys efforts to fight cancer.

For Our Members

Worried about parking? If you a member of our Chapter, we encourage all of our members, old and young, ask for a ride in order to attend our events. If it has been a while since you have visited, dont be afraid to ask. One of our traditions has been giving rides to members to our events and to our meetings. This is what sisters and brothers do for one another, just reach out and we can arrange a ride for you. Visitors from other Chapters are always welcome to our events and to our meetings.

If you were a member of the original Mill Valley Chapter or a member of former Marin Star Chapter and you like to learn more about our chapter, please contact our Worthy Matron, Sister Eleni Ross PM. We hope to continue in the spirit of when you first joined the Order of the Eastern Star. Interested in learning more about Eastern Star or in joining our chapter? You are also welcome to contact Sister Eleni.

Just a reminder, we meet on the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 7:30 p.m. at the Mill Valley Masonic Center. We have a dinner for our members one meeting night of the month typically at 6:30 p.m. If you would like a ride, just ask!

Our History

The members of Marin Star Chapter together with the members of Mill Valley Chapter decided to consolidate to form a new Chapter. The name for the new Chapter is the Star of the Redwoods Chapter. Each of these Chapters had been a part of their community and the Masonic order for 100 years: Mill Valley Chapter since 1904 and Marin Star Chapter which was born of the consolidation of three earlier Eastern Star Chapters in Marin county: San Rafael Chapter, since 1903, Fairfax Chapter and Novato Chapter. Our new chapter combines the vibrancy of Mill Valley Chapter and the effort and dedication of the members of Marin Star Chapter.
