Welcome to Star of the Redwoods Chapter
of the Order of the Eastern Star

Our 2020 Year

As with all organizations, 2020 was a difficult year. but we did manage to have some activities prior to going in to a virtual state in mid-March.

Pre-COVID

We began our year on November 23rd, 2019 with our annual Installation of Officers. It came off without a flaw. We had to make a quick adjustment, for our original installation was scheduled for the evening of November 20th. Which was then cancelled owing to the power in Mill Valley being out! We would like to thank all of those who attended and who helped prepare for the Installation. We held our normal meetings in January and early February. We celebrated our 2020 Chapter Birthday at our second meeting in February. We had a great dinner thanks to the efforts of Sister Patti Stahl. We held our meeting during which the Past Matrons and Past Matrons of the Chapter were introduced by our Worthy Matron and on behalf of the Chapter. She thanked them for their years of service. On Wednesday, March 4th, 2020, we initiated a new member into our Chapter.

All Members Instructional

A good number of us attended the All Member Instructional provided by the Grand Chapter. It was hosted this year by Gold Ridge Star Chapter in Sebastopol.

COVID Cometh

< br/>

Normally, we would have held our Brothers Night in 2020, but owing to the Covid 19 virus looming in the background,it was thought best to cancel it. It will return in the future. For the remainder of 2020, we continued to hold meetings twice a month video conferences in lieu of our monthly meetings. We managed to have some fun with our virtual meetings. We would like to thank our many members who participated.

What We Do

Among the things that we do, each month we dedicate several hours a month to make patient comfort care items to ease the lives of patients recovering from surgery. In addition, we participate in fundraisers, the proceeds of which go to offset the costs of running our organization and some of which goes to charities of the Grand Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in the state of California. We encourage our members to participate. If you are a member and you would like to help, simply call our Secretary, Mimi Davis and she will give you the information. Patient Comfort Care meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month at Marin Lodge in San Rafael. We do this each month except for the months of November and December.

Our History

The members of the former Marin Star Chapter approached the members of Mill Valley Chapter in order to consolidate. The members of Mill Valley Chapter agreed. Star of the Redwoods was chosen as the name of the new Chapter. There was a rich history in each of these organizations. Each of these two Chapters had been a part of their community and the Masonic order for 100 yearsr. : Mill Valley Chapter since 1904. Marin Star Chapter was born of the consolidation of three earlier Eastern Star Chapters in Marin county: San Rafael Chapter, Fairfax Chapter and Novato Chapter. Our new chapter combines the vibrancy of Mill Valley Chapter and the effort and dedication of the members of Marin Star Chapter.
